So I have my tank set up for shellies. I'm curious to know how to go about raising the pH level safely during water changes. I do 75 percent water changes 2 a week now for my Oscar, but how do I go about doing so with my shellies?

What is your water at now? Unless it is really low, your fish will adjust. Just make it stable. If you do decide to manage your ph. Learn all you can of buffering. You cannot "sort of" manage ph . You either leave it alone or watch it like a hawk as you learn. The battle is really getting your water ready to hold the ph you want. Holding ph is primarily based on the mineral content and composition of your water.

my water is currently at 7.8. I know the shellies that I want need ir closer to 9. DO you thinkthat they would be able to adjust or should I try to shoot for at 8.5?

they will adjust with no problems, do you know what they are being raised in? I am assuming , not wild caught fish.

I'm not sure what they are raised in. Still shopping around looking for a dealer that is closer so shipping won't kill me too much.

chances are they are tank raised in water very much like yours. real lake water would cause great distress if they could handle it at all ....until acclimatized.

can you get crushed coral? I know that Sandra had to use to it raise the PH of her tank from the natural 6.0 and below to above 7.0+. But as Tom said, you have to really watch the ph

Transferring my Africans to their new tank tomorrow. New tank has aragonite sand, which on the bag says maintains a steady 8.2 Anybody know if this is true, and if so what about after w/c's?
