Im just gonna do like a log if i change anything on here so i can watch the progress. Lastnight i picked up a Koralia Nano 240 "Power Head" pushs out 240 gallons a hour. So that makes my little 14 gallon nano is pushing around 377 gallons a hour. Question for everyone ok my tank is a 14 gallon but with all the live rock and sand i only have 10 gallons in the tank total so should i take 377/10=37.7 times a hour or should i take it 377/14=26.92 times a hour.. I beleave it would be the 10 not 14. Another thing i changed on the tank is i added about 3 lbs of live rock in the filter. i took the bioballs out. I have read and read on forums and webpages that bioballs are not good for a reef tank just good for a fish only tank. Because of the Nitrate levels are supposed to be a 0. Im so used to haveing some nitrates due to freshwater but owell its a day by day experiance and learning process.. There is alot of brown algae growing but is a good thing from what i read and talked to a friend of mine.. next week ill be adding a Clean up crew of snails and crabs, maybe a shrimp or 2. If all goes as plained.. ill post new pics tomarrow.

hey mate your on track =]
but no crabs just torbo snails, strombus
and a few hermits should clear it right up the diatom bloom
is the stage befor hair algea and then coraline algea
so yur cycle is just about done.
best bet is to do 10% wc a week.
what corals and fish will yu be keeping?

thats what i ment hermits not crabs lol. i been doing 10% water changes every week so far. As for right know i have nothing in the tank besides a yellow tail damsel. As for what i wanna stock for fish i want.
2 clown fish " for my son and daughter"
1 fire fish
1 "watch dog goby" & bulldozer shrimp
6 turbo snails
2 hermits
As for Coral idk yet i would love to have a Anemone but idk yet because size issues.
And would like some Hard coral but i dont know if my lighting is ok for it.
im completely baffeled on the coral part lol

BENNO replied the topic: Re: Just Started a Saltwater tank up.

what lighting are yu running?

since your tank is 50L
yu will only be able to keep snails hermits
2 clowns and the yellow tail< can swap him out for a goby
your lighting depends on what yu can keep
SPS = Small Stoney Polyps) feeding and dosing required and T5 and LED lights (hard)
LPS = Large Stoney Polyps) some need feeding T5 lights (medium)
SOFT = T5 lights (easy)
as for the nem you can have one but will need to be fraged if gets to big for your tank

48 watt canopy lighting includes:
(1) 24 watt True Actinic 03 Blue straight pin
(1) 24 watt 10,000K Daylight straight pin
(2) 0.75 watt Lunar Blue-Moon-Glow LED

You have to think to Since i have so much live sand and live rock i only have 10 gallons of water total. thats even water in the sump so im pushing close to 5.3 watts per gallon thats way over the recommended gallons per watt even for SPS coral. The yellow tail will go once tank is cycled. Ill post pictures here in a hour. Im at work and once i get the time to get them off my phone ill do it.

Took a look at my tank lastnight and i have Feather dusters like 10 of them... Kinda neat seeing them in there. I didnt have time to test water because i didnt get home from work till late. Had out big server crash, so i had to operate on it and replace the motherboard.. owell ill take a closer look at it tonight and post pics of the feather dusters.
