Hi folks
no I am not going saltwater, but my sister seems interested.
She is on a vacation on an island somewhere on the Indian Ocean she told me today she is considering bringing live saltwater aquarium fish with her to Lebanon I have no clue what she will be bringing.
Obviously the fish will be housed at the LFS awaiting setup to finish
Do the same rules, of cycling apply ??
Can I use local see water ? I live close to the beach...

Idk anything about saltwater, but I would bet that water from the local beach is not the way to go. When keeping a fish in a home aquarium, you want to try to mimic the natural water's they came from as much as possible. Always do as much research as possible on any fish you are going to put in a aquarium, preferably before you bring it home.

i searched on the net about local sea water they say that you should pass it through u.v. sterlization before use... but you must avoid using it as far as possible... your ph, hardness will definitely differ and this will give an unnecessary shock to your fishes... and is she bringing the wild caught ones..?

What ever fish you use you should buy RO water from your LFS, this is passed through an RO filter and takes out all the harmfull metals and other inpurities. Your LFS should sell it by the litre.

As for cycling you need to cycle a saltwater tank just the same.

Fill with ro water
Add salt
Mix water and leave cycling
Add some Live rock
cycle
add more live rock
test
add fish
add corals last

This can take anywhere from 6-12 weeks for a stable tank I belive.

Haku, I knew your were good.
