Bri B created the topic: Facing the heater.

Just wondering if my O facing the heater like shown in the pic is a sign of anything bad. Never saw her do that before. When she swims away from it she is acting completely normal. The water specs are exactly like usual. Zero ammonia and nitrite and a little nitrate. 5 ppm. The temp has been steady at 78 since the day I got them. Old tank and new. She looks perfectly fine and when not at the heater is her usual self. She just seems to be hanging there all evening since I've been home from work. Will do a few laps but come right back to the same spot. the out put for the cannister filter is just above there so not sure if the current at that spot has anything to do with it. Anyway hoping I'm being paranoid but interested if anyone has seen their O's do this out of nowhere. Thanks for any insight.

The red is kid of just mimicking her and or checking her out. He's his usual all over the tank self. Could get a closer pic since getting near the tank makes them rush the glass and do the food dance

Haha, that condition's called "What is this? I must uncover its secrets!"

Common co-morbid conditions include: Staring intently at the inlet, staring intently at bubbles, checking out that random rock, randomly gliding around the tank vertically because that bubble moves damn it, staring intently at a reflection for no reason.

In other words, oscars are curious critters and it's totally normal for them to get transfixed by things :P

Mine use to do that. I don't think it's anything to worry about. My betta fish actually sleep on the heaters sometimes. (Those small heaters don't get as hot.)

If it makes you feel better, my oscar Henry plays dead behind the heater occasionally. Gives me a heart attack every time he does it even though there's nothing wrong with him.

Yeah my guys did the sulking thing fairly often when I first got them. Def freaked me out until I read it's super common. playing dead behind the heater is nuts! That's gotta be quite the sight to walk in and see

be happy there just staring at it and not trying to kill it lol

Don't dwell on what went wrong. Instead focus on what to do next
