Was talking earlier about my fish having a fungus looking situation going, here are the pics:

The second picture was just a day or two ago. The stuff almost seems gone with just one day of the API Triple Sulfa treatment. I think Im on the right track

That seems strange that it appears to be so localized on the patch of black scales. I am glad it is diminishing, hope he will be clear in a day or two.

That is truly strange David. Looks nothing like what my SDs had. Almost looks like ich but... not.

If it's improving with the Triple Sulfa treatment then keep it up. If it stops working then I'd try salt dips.

I went through with Fungus gard and Furon 2 am kanaplex and no effect. A bit better response with Seachem Parasite Gard but still not an improvement. The Triple Sulfa seems like its the right track.

I didn't know you were having troubles with fungus/bacteria before. I'm sorry to hear about that and now this with your oscar. But I'm glad triple sulfa seems to be working. After spending some time researching what jen's angels have vs. what that one betta had and now seeing the pics of your Oscar, I'm thoroughly perplexed.

The information readily available on the internet only tends to cover the most common/obvious infections that fish get, but in reality there would be as many pathogens that can infect fish as there are that can infect people, not to mention the variation of symptoms between individuals.

Fish veterinary science/medicine is an area that is sorely lacking, and that (sadly) there does not seem to be much of a market for potential vets to specialise in fish (consider how little the average person cares about fish). At least, not yet. On that front it isn't really that surprising that things often pop up in fish that we've never really seen in others.

That said the recent influx of regulars with sudden (and severe) illnesses in their fish is really disconcerting, and totally sucks :(

at the onset of any sickness, ick or fungi attack, the first thing to look at is the appetite of the fish. 2nd is the quality of water... then temp.... we must also remember that any sickness that occur in a day or two will not be gone immediately... your first or 2nd med may not work totally but perhaps it help to stop further deterioration... then the last med that you think works may just be the finishing stage...

good for you the problem had been checked and stop....

Just a bit of an update.

I drained my tank down to a 50 gallon level so as to stretch out my meds and allow me to run a full course of treatment for up to ten days. The API package says four days minimum are required with a repeat being possible but no further info. I had to search around a bit to find my answer online. Another company says to do the minimum treatment for ten days. Kind of a pain to treat with this product since you have to change 25% of the water before you dose with the next treatment, but reducing the water level in the tank has made the whole process easier and cheaper.

So how is it going? Chunk is responding very well to the Triple Sulfa and I have seen the stuff on top all but disappear. The lower part of the body is taking just a bit longer. I have reduced feedings to about a third of what he normally gets due to the fact of the lower water volume and dont want the waste to cause issues.

Will also add that this stuff is super expensive in store at $17.00 a pack at Petsmart. I ordered mine at Big Al's for $6.99 a pack and then reduced the water level so one package would get me two treatments. I bought a couple extra packs so that if I had to, I could take it out to up to 14 days total.

So if everything goes well, the last treatment is on Saturday the 14th and then I will move the fish out of the bowfront into the standard 75g on Sunday.
