Yeah. I did that. I gave it a quick shake. But I'll do another test tomorrow.

Not a quick shake :) I wish that's all it took. You have to shake nitrate solution #2 hard for at least 2 minutes. Then shake the test tube for 1 minute after adding 10 drops. Wait at least 5 minutes before checking the color.

I always shake nitrate solution #2 for 2 1/2 minutes. If your arm doesn't get tired, you're not shaking the bottle hard enough.

Shake from the wrist guys :P

Mike, the reason we're telling you to test again is because it's impossible to have an established tank with 0 nitrate.

I see. Lol. I'll try again. I'm thinking of using seachem de nitrate in the next tank. Does anybody have experience with it?

While your shaking bottle #2 of the nitrate test bang it on the counter top a few times, The crystals inside have a habit of clumping up when it hasn't been used in awhile.

I haven't tried the seachem de-nitrate, but a member here uses seachem purigen and has good results with lower nitrate levels.

I use API Nitra-zorb. It's an ion-exchange resin that has cut my nitrate in half approximately. When it becomes saturated with nitrate, you re-charge it by soaking it in a solution of aquarium salt and warm water for 2 hours. After rinsing under the tap, it's ready to be used again.
