So Spike is pretty constipated. I was excited he was eating and I think I fed him a few too many pellets. I also assume the change of enviroment isn't helping either. He's too little to eat whole peas so I just squeeze out the insides and give it to him, but its not really working. Should I just stop feeding him until he gets better? And can he die if it doesn't go away soon? Please help, I've only had him for a day and I'm getting worried.

This is from a book. Stop feeding it til his appetite is back. Then, afterwards, feed little and try feeding peas during this time.

Thanks! But his appetite is okay. I will stop feeding him until he poops and then just feed him peas for a bit.

i would stop feeding for a couple days and see if it goes away on its own if not you can try and add some epsom salt (1/4 teaspoon per 10 gallons for 1 week) if you do that make sure to get epsom salt without additives smells colors etcetera

Don't dwell on what went wrong. Instead focus on what to do next

He didn't have it when I got him and he developed a huge poo which is blocking his anus opening overnight. My last Oscar never had this so I assumed it was not normal.

I have seen this before on several occasions, and I know exactly what you mean about developing a huge poo, it's quite unbelievable what these small fish can produce occasionally.

Feeding the fish peas is often a good way to relieve constipation. In more chronic cases of constipation you can actually use epsom salts as a laxative in the water. However, if you are seeing what looks like a large swelling around the entrance to the anus, just leave it a day and hopefully the Oscar will relieve itself naturally.

Okay thanks for your advice :) he was very happy and friendly before this happened, and now he's quite shy, so I hope it goes away soon!
