I'm posting this about a fish my uncle just acquired well here is the story. A guy he knows bought a tiny 1 inch albino oscar out him in a 55 gallon and he has only grown 2.5 or 3 inches in 6 or 7 months He only cleaned the tank once every 2 months to go along with it to... Is there any chance at all he will reach 12 inches ifhe is properly maintained now and gets a quality diet of pellets shrimp and bloodworms I want this little guy to get big haha!

This might sound like silly question, but are you absolutely sure it's an Oscar? Post a photo if you can

He should grow at a decent rate. May not make the foot long mark, but he would be too big for a 55 at that length anyways. Keep the water very clean, offer a quality diet. Add some vitamin to his food.

In 55g, it will eventually take more than a weekly water change. Monitor parameters, do what it takes to keep nitrate under 20ppm, closer to 10 is better.

Ah, got it. Kinda unknown how the fish will progress though. Getting a bad start to life usually takes a toll later on, but not always. Get your uncle to join the site, we would be glad to have him onboard and offer first hand help

i had rescued another oscar from a filthy tank too, one did not make it but the other recovered and catch-up with the rest of the gang... it turn out she is a bit different... and i believe she is a "red tail bahia"
type of oscar...

Sweet that encourages me to know you were succesfull In growing one out after rescuing it I,might end,of taking, him off my uncle's hands when I get a 125 if he makes a good recovery! So do vitamins really make that big of a difference just curious if it's a drastic difference ? Draco what did you do to help this one recover ?

i am a firm believer of "pristine water and varied foods" will make our fish healthy.
vitamins will help but the fish formulated foods are already made for fish in captivity..
complete with fish nutrients requirement.

big tank + clean water + good foods = healthy fish...

topmost fish is the rescued fish...
