In my tank I have an 8 month old ascar, some severums, and 5 giant danios. I noticed one of them is very bloated and swimming a little funny, but is still eating. It’s not pregnant since a water change would have triggered it to mate and lay eggs. I keep up with water changes and my water parameters are fine.

My question is, since this danio is a bit slower than the rest, it’s just a matter of time till my Oscar picks her off. Is there any danger my Oscar gets sick since the danio is bloated?

Can you please post a photograph? This sounds like it could be a condition called dropsy. Dropsy is more a symptom than an actual disease so it's difficult to know what is wrong. Are the scales sticking out as well?

To be honest with you, if this fish doesn't show any signs of recovery then you may be wise to remove it from the tank if you can't treat it.

I may not always be right, but I am always the BOSS :-)

I'll take a pic when I get home tonight.

Scales look fine. It really does look like she's very pregnant, but you can tell she's struggling a bit.

Sorry for the lack of pics, but the danio was gone when I arrived home. My oscar still ate like he was starving when I fed at night. Little piggy.

4 danio's left in the tank.
