scrape from hard object... perhaps due to some irritation...
just do large water change and the fish will be fine!

Welcome to the site. 20 ppm nitrate is the level where large water change is necessary. 3x 20% weekly is likely not keeping nitrate under that amount. Larger changes of equal total volume are better than multiple small ones. Try a 75% every 4- 5 days. When Oscar gets bigger, you will need to do that twice a week anyways, may as well adopt the large change ritual now.

Thanks for the advise, bigger water changes it is then
I was doing larger changes during summer as the water from the tap in summer was around 25 degrees C I switched to smaller more frequent changes in winter as the tap water is down to about 19 and was dropping the tank temp too much.

Going to rig somthing up so I can fill his tank from the indoor kitchen tap so I can add a little warm water so the tank temp doesn't drop.

Is it worth adding a little Melafix??

Thanks again.

I would not worry about adding melafix, just uping water changes as already suggested. By all means get a python or other type water changing system, large and often water changes are the key to keeping these large fish healthy. here is a link to a water changing system.
