So I had this Oscar since he was a baby, (2012), and he has always been in a 75 gallon tank by himself. Well, I have posted that he is PITA, attacks everyone, won't leave anything alone. I clean the glass and he is slamming into my hand and arm the whole time. I struggle to get his tank cleaned because of this, etc. But I adore him.

Well, I decided at one point to feed him some earthworms, and it got to the point where he would only eat worms. And I mean only earthworms. Well, he has been on them exclusively for a year or so. I know.

I change out 80% of his water every other day. Sometimes days in a row. I just want him to have healthy water, etc.

So the question. As much as I adore him, he really should eat other things. I would like to see him go back on pellets..Can it be done? Do I just not feed him and try a pellet a day until he does eat one? I feel guilty for creating this and want to fix it. So I know I have done wrong, and have beat myself up enough. So what should I do?

Here are 2 pics to show him off. :-)

adorable fish!

well, it depends on your determination... fish of that size could survive for a week without food....
that is... if you can bear the pain seeing your fish starving LOL!
but honestly... yes, you can starve him for a while until he take what you give...
and earthworm should become just a treat every now and then....

Well, I have pellets arriving today. Haven't fed him for 3 days. Going to see if he takes a pellet tonight. I have a feeling this is going to be tough however. I hate him not eating.

Yes this will test your resolve for sure. Very healthy fish due to your dedicated water changing, so this guy could easily go several weeks without food. Stay strong, be the boss? Btw, what kind of pellet are you going to try?

I may not be the Boss, but I'm ALWAYS right!

So update. I got my Hikari Gold pellets today. I put one in and he ATE it!!

Let him finish. Then put a second one in and he grabbed it and then spit it out. Then gpt pissy and slammed into the glass trying to kill me. So maybe a longer battle then what I had hoped. But it is a start.

I had a similar problem with my Oscar and shrimp... Just stopped feeding him shrimp and let him decide how long he didn't want to eat the pellets the other fish get took about a week
