Goranothos created the topic: a tip on pleco feeding

I have a large common plecostomus that loves zucchini.

The way I usually feed him/her is to slice two or three pieces of zucchini, skewer it with a stainless steel potato skewer and drop that in the tank after dark. It is always gone the following morning. I then have to reach into my 150 gallon tank, past my elbow, and retrieve the skewer.

Well.....this past weekend I was in Wal-Mart and found this:

Well, the one I found was around $6 and was probably longer, but you get the idea.

A bright light went off in what passes for my brain and I put 2 and 2 together to come up with 5, all the while coming to the conclusion that I could use this "camping fork" to skewer some zucchini for my pleco, place it in my tank after dark (leaving the handle outside the tank lid), then retrieve the empty fork in the morning, all without having to reach into the tank water past my elbow.

It worked!

Please PM me if you would like to send a donation for this helpful tip.

It's stainless steel.

Well, on further reading, actually it's chrome plated steel, and chrome isn't supposed to rust, so hopefully it won't, but it sure is a convenient way to feed plecos.

My other idea was that I was going to tie some fishing line to the potato skewers that I was using, which would allow me to pull them out in the morning without reaching all the way down into the bottom of my tank. My tank/stand is kinda tall, and I have to use a step stool to reach into the bottom.

That's a great idea, actually. Thread the zucchini with fishing line, then tie a rock to the end. :)

I had a rock that had a whole in it I would smash the zucchini in and had a line tied to it to get back out of my 110 xh .. I have since gotten rid of all big plecos tho
