Unless you alter the tank temps and lighting time to simulate seasonal change, the fish wouldnt know what season it is. A newly aquired wild caught may sense a dif, but aquarium bred fish would not. Loss of appetite is usually caused by degrading water quality.

I see, thank you for your advice. I think maybe my Oscar is growing so he is eating less than usual.

Oscars are pigs and will generally eat everything you fire in the tank. How old and how big is yours? Maybe it is getting bored with the usual offerings?

I agree with Dave. If you are concerned about his eating less try some new food or treats.
We do have a great list in the Diet&Food section.
It also never hurts to test the water just as a precaution.

Hey Guys thank you for the great advice, he is picky with his food (Pellets) he loves his blood worms and shrimps. He is about 6 months now. 11cm. I think, I know why he is eating less. I moved my shoe rack on the weekend, next to his tank and I think he is upset about that.

Ah yes, the juvie Oscar being picky. Very common. He likes the bloodworm and shrimp, and will try your patience snubbing pellets. He is in what I call the growth spurt months of his life, and nutrition is very important at this point. You need to have him on high quality pellets as a staple. Offer only pellets until he accepts them as his regular food. A vitamin supplement to strengthen his bone structure and some veg matter is also needed. Try him with some raw veg, green peas are usually welcomed. If he wont take any, a spirulina based pellet should be added to his diet. Bloodworm is ok for treats, but imo fd krill is better.

Lol, you are so right! Thank you for your response. Yes, he is playing games with me. He loves his pellets, and does eat it like crazy but lately he eats one or two or sometimes more. I'm currently giving him Tertra Cichild sticks. He doesn't like any veg :-( , I have tried he just spits it out. Thank you again.

The Tetra is a "decent" food. I use a lot of Omega1 food, both pellet and freeze dried. Also throw a little Hikari Gold in the mix. The veg is VERY important, with Oscars being omnivores. My guys not real good on accepting raw veg either, but the spirulina pellets are readily gulped down. You can also get spirulina powder from any health food store. While food is soaking up some Boyd's VitaChem, sprinkle some powder on, and you have protein, vitamin and veg all in one serving. Works particularly well with raw shrimp or tilapia. Proper diet, along with excellent water quality and tankspace makes a world of difference for Oscars.
