My young 4" tiger oscar has been eating great, from pellets, small worms, to rosie reds. no problems at all. However one day i noticed a bump under his belly right where he poops, no white stringy poop so no parasites. I said ok he is constipated, because he has little red protruding fecal matter . For two weeks my oscar recieved nothing but microwaved unshelled peas. he really enjoys them. the peas where working great as a natural laxative and he would pass the peas no problem. however when he would pass the peas the red fecal matter would come back and just stick out of him being unpassable. what is keeping the red pellets in his stomach even after i havent fed him the red pellets for 2 weeks? in the past 3 days i have began feeding him half pellets half thawed unshelled peas hoping to help get what ever is in there OUT but the bump does not seem to be making any change in size. it is not visable in pictures because of how dark blue he is compared to the dark back drop. the bump has not gone away for a about 3 weeks, however it still eats and seems happy, it is beggining to stress me out, having no idea what is wrong :( wisdom or somebody simply saying "well if it seems fine and eats dont worry" would help me out

hi and welcome to OFL ,

few questions that needs answer first:

1.what size tank
2.filtration
3.rosie reds???? are they feeder fish?
4.have you have your water tested?
5.any pictures?

i would stop feeding your oscar - and test your water if you haven't.

Sounds like prolapsed anus, treatable but must be certain. Big no on the minnows, and we def need a good pic of the ailment. Also please answer the above questions.

Welcome to our little community. So you just still feeding only peas? Oscars don't normally pass pellets in the same form that they went in, the digestive juices will have done exactly the same as what happens to any food that we eat. So it's probably the case that your Oscar has already passed the pellets, I doubt they will just stay inside the fish, that would make it ill and would mean that the digestive system isn't working properly.

Is there any noticeable swelling of the abdomen? It may be a good idea if you can get a decent photo of what you are talking about, this will give people a better idea of what is going on.

it's 12" tall and 30" long really weird dimensions
i have two filters in the tank and a bubbler in the middle
a couple days ago i went into the fish store to ask questions and test water and he said the water was not the problem. i have done 1 water change since then.

Right off the top your tank is far too small. Second, your fish store guy is all wrong. A very high percentage of Oscar problems are directly related to water quality issues, which in turn are caused by too small of a tank and not enough water changes. The correct info for Oscar care is right here, and we will surely get you sorted.
