daddadoo7 created the topic: How do you provide variety in food

Stayed home today from work (kids are sick) and was bored so I thought I would post this to see how everyone else schedules the variety in how they feed. I normally just randomly feed them different stuff but thought I would put a schedule together (based on my work schedule)

Argentea tank (gold nugget and tiger barbs)
Day 1 - omega one kelp pellets
Day 2 - nls
Day 3 - omega one kelp pellets
Day 4 - nls
Day 5 - veggies (romaine/peas)
Day 6 - krill soaked in boyds vitachem and nls
Repeat

Community (pearsei, heterospilus, hrp, metae, green phantom, sootted raph, rainbowfish dithers)
Day 1 - nls/algaemax mix
Day 2 - nls/algaemax mix
Day 3 - omega one super color pellets and omega on kelp discs
Day 4 - nls/algaemax mix
Day 5 - veggies (romaine/pease)
Day 6- krill soaked in boyds vitachem and nls
Repeat

Dithers get flake or small nls

Any suggestions ? How do you do it ?

I'm afraid I wasn't as organised as you when I was keeping my big tank :-).but your feeding regime should give newcomers a good idea of how you can vary the fishes Dietary needs. Now there's an idea, may be we could come up with the perfect weekly menu for an Oscar fish? Varying its diets with healthy foods, but keeping it interested in food at the same time.

I may not always be right, but I am always the BOSS :-)

Thanks ofl just sitting with the kids watching everytjing from frozen and pirate faries to chased by dinosuars figured why not be productive. Im trying to gear the diet more towards veggies as most are herbivores but with enough quaility pellets and protein as they are mostly juvies

My oscar will get used to one kind of food and will often spit out different types. But I wouldn't expect that with krill which look and smell the same ... same size too. I posted in the other thread that my o was used to tetra krill. I tried another brand that looked the same and he spit it out two days in a row ... these are all soaked in vitachem too. Since then, I got some more of the tetra and sure enough he didn't spit it out.

I don't know what would happen if I varied his diet as much as your list. I'm not sure if he'd get used to the variation or just want his favorite food.

These are pretty much my staples. Omega One (floating & sinking) Cichlid Bio Gold, NLS ultra red, Freeze dried river shrimp soaked in Vita Chem, shelled peas (for Max) Hikari Algae wafers & a leaf lettuce of some sort (Romaine, Kale) for the Silver $. As a treat usually once a week they all get Hikari carnivore pellets.
I just rotate these thru the week and Sunday is the day off.
