Yup Nocturnal oscar! Is it possible to teach an oscar to feed at night or it will harm him negatively?

While Oscar has good night vision, he should be sleeping while tank is dark. Why do you ask?

Oscar is not naturally nocturnal and should be fed during daylight when he is burning more calories. How big is Oscar and how often do you normally feed?

You are overfeeding. Skipping a day is a good thing, but 2x daily feeding is not. Your fish is at the size and age where he could easily be fed every 2nd day. You could also go with 3 days feed in a row then skip a day. I have been doing this lately with my adult cichlids. Pellets, then treats like krill or chopped fish and shrimp, and on day 3 veg pellets. Day 4 is no feed, then start over. If your fish will eat fruit pieces or raw veg, great. Most of mine wont, so its veg pellets and liquid vitamins with the freeze dried krill.

Oh okay Thanks. How about the catfish though? he is only active during the night and the oscar can smell food at night. That is why I said twice a day. THe nighttime is for the catfish but my oscar will share food with him. My oscar also eats fishes stuffed with vegetables. Does that count?

If the catfish is not getting enough at night, it will learn to come out during the day to briefly feed. Make sure the room is completely dark before you drop the food for the catfish at night.

Yeah. My tank is in an unusual place. It is somehow in the outdoors except enclose in walls. I forgot the name of the area. Veranda? Striped Raphael catfish is my catfish.
