It seems that my 5 inch Oscar really prefers the sinking Hikari foods better than the floating versions. Anyone else have the same situation? Mine must be unusual since all the pet supply places around here only sell the floating version. He will only eat a few of the floating and then just let them swell up and stay on top of the water. Sinking he eats up.

I also just bought a big bag of the green "staple" Hikari (that floats) and he doesn't like that one either.

Sounds like your overfeeding, and he's peeing picky. If he's not actively attacking (eating) his food you've overfed.

My oscar will attack and almost jump out of the tank for the first couple pellets. After that he just swims around swallowing up what ever is left so the other tank mates don't get it. It's tricky making sure all the fish have eaten, but not overfeed the oscar at the same time.

it all boils down the way you feed your fish... all my fish will take anything whether floating or sinking...

starve your fish for 2-3 days and surely will take anything that drops inside the tank.

Welcome to OFL. Feed only once a day and skip a day per week. Offer more variety. Try some fruit and veg pieces. Hikari Staple is the bottom end of the Hikari line. Its not a terrible food, but the Gold and Biogold are far better.

Ok. So it seems the group verdict is to let him get hungry. His tank mates are some giant Danios that may feel his wrath if he gets too hungry.

I do try to give him some variety.

yeah, that is the way to do it ... and yes, your danios would be in great danger...
