Silvers and black tend to be the larger species, going 3' in aquarium specimens, and jardini and asian aro's tend to be smaller, around 26-28" from what I know.

question: How big could an arowana comfortably get in a 125 gallon before the tank would need to be upgraded?

Depends on the dimensions, if it's 6' long, then I would estimate 16" or so, before you'd want to upgrade. I use a smaller tank for growing out, which is fine, so long as there are plans for a permanent home in the future.

so how are the personalities of arrowanas compared to big cichlids like oscars? Are they as personable as oscars?

My Aro jitters, I've noticed a lot of times, swimming straight into the front of the glass, and splashing to get my attention. All of this, when I look over, for him to just resume swimming as normal.

I think it's just his way of saying, look at me, look what I can do!

He is also very aware of what's going on outside his tank, and to an extent I believe he does recognize me as a non threat. My big Aro even lets me pet her while i'm cleaning the tank. She will come swimming around the vac and wait until I pat her then swim along.

So in a nutshell, I would say yes, at least on par with Oscars as far as interactivity goes.

Yeah I don't know I jus think it is cool to see any fish eat and especially an arowana.

that being said do you think a 5 foot 255 gal tank could house an arrow or would it just be to small for them? just wondering

What are the front to back dimensions, I mean it's possible, but it probably wouldn't be ideal, not for the long term.

Yea, even Jardini get over 20" so it would be a tight squeeze for them as well. Plans for the next tank I suppose lol
