same is true with the parrot fish being made to shape like heart...
they need to cut the tail up to the base fin, otherwise, it will just
regenerate and grow back to normal! cruel isn't it????

Oh that makes sense. My aro rubs them against new food that I try with him, before actually biting into it. They have an excellent sense of smell.

Good to hear that your big guy will grow back his. They look ok without the goatee, but look so crisp with them intact.

Yea, my other one I had to put in my discus tank until tomorrow because he was getting picked on pretty bad. When I moved him, his barbels got a little messed up, but not too badly damaged I don't think.

Yeah they lose a little of their black color I've noticed, if the fish rubs them too hard against something. Have you decided the sex's of the 2 big aros yet? I think Paul was right about tail shape...Ive noticed a big difference in that between males or females.

Just my guess, my biggest is a female, the middle is a male, and the smallest is a male.

I did the over/underbite comparison, though I don't know how accurate any method really is.

Actually, i'm cutting down to a single Aro here in the next few weeks.

The big guy went from lamb to lion, started really going after the mid sized guy. I had to put him in my discus tank :pinch: So I'm just keeping the big guy, and trading out for some other fish. Going to end up with a tiger shovelnose, a spotted gar, and the big aro in my big tank, plus my bichir, and silver dollars.

Sounds like a good stocking list. Although how are you going to deal with the TSN? Is that just temporary?

From what I've read, in aquariums, they seldom go over 30" so he should be a permanent addition.

Really? wow thats reasonable. Hopefully aggression isn't an issue either. That will be quite a great looking tank with all those big guys.
