when i had my arow. many years ago.... from my observation it seems as though they used them to feel vibrations in the water. mainly for ambushing prey. (just my observation)

The similarity seems likely, but like you said, they could be vibration sensors. Heck for all we know, they could be some kind of reproductive thing

yeah, i think they use them like catfish. touch/feel sense, is in addition to sight.
