Just a recent snapshot of the weeksii and a tape measure. I thought the thing would never get this big... and its still growing!

They are cool but there is a huge issue with them and certain plecos. Some plecos will attack and suck the slime coat off off bichirs. My rhino used to attack the weeksii all the time, I think due to territorial issues. But one morning I awoke to the pleco missing a side fin and it never messed with the bichir again.... fin grew back and all has been well. So getting a bichir would possibly mean a pleco rehome

Largest I have seen in a picture on another forum was 22" and that was pretty exceptional. 18"-20" about the biggest most of them get. That was one of the reasons I went with the Weeksii, it generally stays smaller than lets say an Ornate and it had a good reputation of getting along with other fish with little aggression issues. So far that has proved to be true. Plus weeksii are not as commonly kept. Seems like tons of people own Ornate bichir.

I had a bichir who uses the death roll to steal an earthworm from the oscar while it is still holding its prey.

Mottled Bichir I heard also can eat creatures that look like too big for the fish to swallow.
