Mine all cost around $50 and were about 2-1/2" when I got them. That also seems to be the general mark for price point I've seen when shopping around for them.

I mean I've seen them over $100, but that's for adult fish. Most juvies that people buy are around that $50 price point. This will also depend on the rarity of the strain.

Here little ones in pet shops cost about R100 - that's about 8 pounds or 12ish dollars.

Bigger ones go up quickly in price, up to about R500 (40 pounds or 48 dollars). I'm sure there are more expensive ones here, but that's what you see in pet shops.
As a point of comparison, R300 gets you a full grown male malawi mbuna fish, or a large (12 inch or more) oscar at most shops that have adult fish.

Hey, I guess they're either lower quality, or actually cheaper :) Not that comparing prices directly like this says much, but hey!

Yes breeding pairs can go from £100-£150...ALOT more if they are chens
www.chensdiscus.co.uk/breeding-pairs/

The reason they get so much more expensive when they are adults is all the effort to get them to that size..

They are very easily stunted in growth with the wrong/not enough food...not to mention the wrong water condition's.

Out of the 10 i bought 8 of them grew and turned out perfect...two didn't and ended up stunted with a lack of coloration.

I gave these stunted discus away for free... leaving me with 8 Healthy ones.
I then sold 4 from that group that showed no signs of pairing up for £140...leaving me with two breeding pairs for myself.
