Matt created the topic: Discus Constipation

So, my small turquoise, about 3" or so, decided he was gonna gorge himself, now he can't poop!

I've currently got him isolated in a hospital "bucket", swapping tank water for the stuff in his bucket, keeping it aerated, and heated.

Most of the remedies I've read were Epsom salt baths, and peas. He's in an Epsom salt bath right now, I'm just wanting to know, how long do I leave him in there?

His swimming is very labored, and from what I know, it's because his stomach is compressing his swim bladder. Hopefully I've got it early enough that he'll make it :(

The bad news, he's swimming face down tail up in the bucket

Well if anything it's my fault, I feed them twice a day, and I guess he just gorged himself last night and I didn't notice till this morning :(

Well, when I had my little aro in there, he'd snap up a whole cube of bloodworms for himself, leaving the discus, catfish and ghost knife to share two. Since I moved the little one to the big tank, and the mid sized to the discus tank, and the aro is upset with me, he's not eating, so they had extra bloodworms to snack on.

Well I think he's doing better, he's able to hold himself in one spot without looking like he's swimming for the Olympics.

He hasn't had another BM since that first one earlier, so I'm going to leave him in the bucket a while longer and see if he does.

Hopefully I caught it soon enough that he will be ok.

Well, he does seem to be doing better, although still has a swollen gut. Might keep him in the Epsom salt bath overnight just to make sure.

I tossed a shucked pea in for him, hoping once he does evacuate the pea will help clear anything that's left.
