if anyone could identify them, that would be very nice.

The first one is a pigeon blood and the second one is a pigeon blood cross of some sort, the diffculty with pigeon blood varieties is they pepper very easliy when placed in a tank with dark background or substrate. They dont have the best shape but they dont look like they were completely neglected, lots of big water changes should clean them up at least some

I love those fish, but every one I have seen at the LFS looks banged up. I think with the proper care those will be stunning. Nice pick up! Can't comment on what type they are, but think Ken already answered that question.

Discus are awesome but stay away from LFS discus, if you are ever thinking of doing discus let me know ill get you in contact with some importers that will get you setup with very quality discus at about the same price as LFS ones

well i've had them since 7 pm yesterday and they have already had a 150% waterchange in total, readings as usual 0-0-5 (my pothos does a hell of a job on an understocked tank. i could keep the water in there for weeks and still not have more then 10 ppm. but as nitrates aren't all i tend to overdo on the WC anyway. wondering if i should use peat, i bought it in nice filterbag size and my local aquarium club always has them on stock.

they would appreciate the tannins and the slightly softened water but its not necessary

Thanks Ken, I will contact you if I ever set up a discus tank. I wish I could go back and undo my mistakes, but the important thing is not to repeat them. I have no plans on getting any fish from the LFS ever again.

i really hope so too, if i can get these to flourish and grow bigger then i can go ahead and try to breed them (if a pair) and if that works then i can go on to get more :D

on another note i sold my big angels and most of the fry they had, i still have 15 fry from 3 different couples left so i'll be mixing them to get some new morphs.

Ken's spot on w/ his advice....but I do feel Discus thrive in "blackwater" & tend to be more robust & just all-around healthier.

THOSE WHO REFUSE KNOWLEDGE ARE DOOMED TO FAIL.

WATER CHANGES ARE THE LIFEBLOOD OF THIS HOBBY. IF YOU DON'T BELIEVE SO OR SIMPLY DON'T FEEL LIKE DOING THEM, RE-HOME YOUR FISH, SELL YOUR AQUARIUM & FIND ANOTHER HOBBY, AS YOU WILL FAIL UTTERLY, COMPLETELY, & MISERABLY.
