That looks to be a deformity....gill plate doesn't cover gills all the way.......OK if you want as a pet, but shouldn't be allowed to breed, as it will carry that genetic trait. :(

THOSE WHO REFUSE KNOWLEDGE ARE DOOMED TO FAIL.

WATER CHANGES ARE THE LIFEBLOOD OF THIS HOBBY. IF YOU DON'T BELIEVE SO OR SIMPLY DON'T FEEL LIKE DOING THEM, RE-HOME YOUR FISH, SELL YOUR AQUARIUM & FIND ANOTHER HOBBY, AS YOU WILL FAIL UTTERLY, COMPLETELY, & MISERABLY.

Just a pet, just making sure he's not dying or suffering.

That is a Koi, they are referred to as blushing angelfish because at a small size there gill covers are transparent allowing you to see the gills giving the impression they are blushing. Most as they grow will develop pigment in the gills but some spots might remain opaque. The blushing and iridescent spots on the body are side effects of have a double stripeless gene, genetically your fish would read GM/GM x S/S

This means as i stated in another thread of yours both mom and dad are gold marble ghost GM/GM x -/S, 25% of there offspring will result in Koi. If you raise this one out and backcross it to one of the parents it will result in offspring that are 50% koi or if you have other koi from this spawn they will breed true 100% koi

Well then, lol! We only ended up keeping 3 of the babies I'm not sure about the other 2 but this guy here is the one I'm keeping wasn't planning on breeding him at all. Still don't! He will just be a beauty in my tank! He's massive compared to his 2 siblings, not sure why. He eats like a horse. Thanks for the info!

My apologies if I gave out incorrect info....from what I saw in photo I thought that to be a deformity.

Honestly I'm good with either as long as he's not suffering. That was my main concern. I feel better knowing that he's not, by either of your accounts. Thank You both! We'll see how this baby grows!

Its as easy mistake most make if they haven't breed that specific line, its an odd looking quirk and only appears in fish with a double stripeless gene. Like i said most develop pigment so the blushing trait only really presents for a few months
