It all depends on what genus you plan on getting.
The mostly kept are the Florida or Spotted Gars, because their size from baby/young of a year to adult will often allow tham to thrive in a 6x2 footer.
What spcifics do you want to know?

There's so much to tell.
Reading through the Ancient fish/gars section will give you quite some idea allready, and of course we'll be willing to answer any questions you have. :)

Yea, if you have Gar questions that aren't answered in the ancient fish section, Noddy is a valuable fount of gar information. I was chatting his ear off when I was looking to get one, unfortunately it never materialized and now that i've given up looking the LFS get in a 12" Florida gar :pinch:

sorry late response no I havent brought one yet; I havent been back to shop lol been busy and ill and so on. Also I think my tank is possibly overstocked and Im holding out for another tiger I kind of miss only having one the 2reds are great but they are not tigers. :)

I might get gar but the tank would be overstocked I feel and not sure about risk for my rainbows are small only 4inches.

was it from A5? let me know how you go with it I was unsure as I dont want to feed live foods and sometimes they are hard to get eating. But try shrimp and mealworms, earthworms. :)
