gorgoroth created the topic: panaque vs 3D background

so about an hour ago i started to hear noises coming out of my aquarium, kind of like sanding paper on carboard.
So ofcourse i investigate, at first i can't find it so i keep looking, and while i'm looking, i notice my panaque is stuck to the background near some algae buildup.
This is when i started to see him move and at the same time the noise started again. so if you ever need something sanded down, get a panaque to do it for you :D

more like itchy teeth, those suckers can really grind their way through algae (and the 3D background if he wanted)

Those teeth will grind through allmost anything.

I found out that epoxiresin is one of the best pleco-resistant substances.
The "normal" LFS background do get pretty beat up, after being in a Plecotank for a longer time.
And as it is not only for the fun of it, the Pleco's do digest the styrofoam and it can be harmfull to them.

But there are only a few options that can stand the rasping, without damage to the background... :(
I can't remember, but what is the background of your tank made of?

it's a standard juwel rocky background, from about 20 years ago. so far he seems to be keeping the damage to the algae. funny, it's like a lawnmower, when the lights go out the grass on my background gets cut to the ground :D
