Noddy get with the program buy some shrimps ;)

whats the best setup for shrimp? Any tips Paul?

Do they need good lighting? I have always seen them in heavy planted tanks which I cant see working with plecs but I feed them lots of greens if the shrimps need that.

@Noddy I am not strict I am just correct!!!!!!!!

lighting is more on for the plants, not for the shrimps...
this fancy shrimps need good water just like the fish
pH 6.6 to 8.2
temp 22 deg C to 27 deg C
no ammonia, no nitrite and nitrate not more than 40
below is a pic from one of our local hobbyist...

do they like oak leafs? because its nearly leaf dropping time.

so plants not too important because I dont have good record with plants and when I brought them from shop I got ick :(

Im gonna do some more research and then Ill have to get rid of the remaining fry and wonder about what to do with little fM female as has been in that tank a long time. Dont really want to get rid of her. But after xmas the project will begin :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:

yes, oak leaves will be fine.... shrimps loves the micro organism that develop
on the decaying leaves.... plus, pH is more stable when there is leaves inside the tank...

but aren't you be occupied after Christmas? with the baby?
i believe you need to consider that :P

Since i moved the Blue Ram and Tetras out of my little plant/shrimp tank the population has exploded.
I keep one Bristlenose (taken from the bristlenose factory tank) in there to help keep algae in check. When I throw in algae wafers the BN seems to get a bit excited and thrash about which sends the shrimp flying but it doesn't seem to bother them. I think it would be fair to say the BN has never gone after any shrimp for a snack, unlike the Ram which went out of it's way to eat shrimp.

Horrible picture quality taken with my phone but you get the idea. I want get my camera out and get a photo of all my shrimp at feeding time

nice ifo and good to hear from you; this tank is on hold though for a bit as I have some fish to rehome but I think from the research they should go together and Ill be giving the shrimp plenty of space and hiding holes.

good to see from first hand though thanks Aus-car :)
