Ok, Wilma, my female convict, is not playing nice with my silver dollars in my 150 gal. She is nibbling on their fins, and I'm tired of it.

Fred, the O, killed a few SDs when they were small enough that he considered them food, but now he ignores them.

I happen to have a wooden stand that is the correct size for either a 20 long, or a 29.

I could easily set this up in my basement and move Wilma there. I even have spare filters and whatnot, so all I would really have to do is buy the tank, a heater, and substrate.

I don't really want to have one convict alone in there. My question is.....will she get along with anything?

What else can I put in there with her?

She really is a beautiful fish.

No, I don't want a breeding pair.

is the tank 20litres? Or 20gals? because 2olitre really isnt alot of tank for a convict, I would personnelly just rehome it and then maybe set the tank up with a betta or shrimp and tetra types if you want another tank.

I think convicts really need 50gals and some of them are just aggressive no matter whats put with them.

I'm living my life, but not necessarily in the right order :)

20 liters? isnt that like 7 gallons?

you could get away with a solo female convict in a small tank since they dont get big at all. but if im thinking of size correctly.... that would be a really tiny tank for a cichlid.

i wouldnt bother with tankmates for a convict unless it was 50+, you could get away with a smaller tank if you kept it alone though.

Liters? No, I think in gallons.

I am referring to either a 20 gallon (long) tank or a 29 gallon tank.

yeah.... not too sure about tankmates.....

the only thing i can really think of is another female convict.

having a tough time thinking of something that wouldnt be too big for the tank.... and something that she wouldnt kill.

Ok, the consensus seems to be if I move her to a 20 or 29 gal, she should stay alone.

Thanks for the advice. I'll give it some more thought. I was hoping as the SDs got bigger she would get less nippy with them. I have three that are bigger than the convict now.

Just my opinion, but I would leave them all as is. Female con will be lucky to reach 5ins and will take a long time to get there. You sd should outgrow her easily and i think its likely she will give up the aggression as she is out numbered and out sized. Single Con in a smallish tank? Boring! I think you have a real nice stock for a 150, and unless it really gets out of hand or pisses you off too much, I would let be. In my biggest tank I have a GT, sex unknown, and 2 male Cons. For a several months they just did not play nice. They are pretty well the same size. Last couple weeks I notice they swim together quite often as a threesome, and have not witnessed any aggression. All fish and tanks are different, just an observation from my guys.
