i've heard plecos latching on fish's slim coat and stress them till they die.... but test your water to make sure that's not the case ...

i had to get rid of my previous pleco in my gf's goldfish tank because he would nibble at them, don't let them fool you, they have a big suckermouth and when attached to something can do some serious damage, whether it be cucumber, driftwood or another fish.

I'll Have to take a sample of my water to Petsmart and get it checked . But I did do a water change Before I put the Pleco in the tank . I've had that goldfish for 3 yr's and was doing great Till I added the pleco . I turned out the lights everyone was fine . Next Day I Turned the lights on in the tank and noticed my goldfish was just laying at the bottom . I just find it a bit weird this just happens out of the blue . I've been keeping my tank light on since that happened .

I'm thinking the pleco overwhelmed the filtration....I can see a large Gibbiceps or one of the Panaque species harming a fish, but not a BN. Goldfish are top of the line waste producers (they are carp, after all), & then a pleco on top of that.....if the other fish are unharmed & look to be in good shape, that may be the case....or, it was simply that fishes time, it does occur even in the best conditions.

THOSE WHO REFUSE KNOWLEDGE ARE DOOMED TO FAIL.

WATER CHANGES ARE THE LIFEBLOOD OF THIS HOBBY. IF YOU DON'T BELIEVE SO OR SIMPLY DON'T FEEL LIKE DOING THEM, RE-HOME YOUR FISH, SELL YOUR AQUARIUM & FIND ANOTHER HOBBY, AS YOU WILL FAIL UTTERLY, COMPLETELY, & MISERABLY.

I wouldnt be real confident on Petsmart testing. Having your own liquid test kit is invaluable for quick water quality monitoring.

its very possible that adding the pleco in put the bio load over the top.

it could also be just a coincidence.

this is why its very important to have a test kit of your own. your fish could be sitting in poison, and you dont even know...... or you could be worried about absolutely nothing because your water is perfect.

when in doubt, do a water change.

I've heard of plecs latching onto the side of fish at night in order to eat their slime coat, however I've not actually witnessed them killing this before. However, it certainly isn't beyond the rounds of a large plec to be able to kill another fish, after all they will eat small fish given half a chance. Was there any sign of attack on the goldfish? I would also suggest that goldfish shouldn't really be kept in a heated aquarium, they are cold water fish.

I may not always be right, but I am always the BOSS :-)

Before I found this site I would give my fish feeders I don't anymore anyway I saw my pleco chase feeders to the surface and eat them before. The first time I saw this I was in shock I thought I was seeing things until about a minute later and he did it again.
