If you like the bichirs more than the schooling fish, there's no need to get a new tank just for the bichirs.

I don't think it's overstocked. Most of those fish contribute such a small amount of bio to the tank. A nitrate reading would give you a solid idea of where you stand on bio load.

Its been zero for weeks since I had my issue. Speaking on what you said rock I found a cream sickle mollie dead watching them at night they tend to lay on the bottom not sure if just died or what but its tail was off. so could have been the Bichir. Have had it a year so you never know levels were all fine when I checked this morning.

nitrates cant be zero because it is a byproduct of the cycle. what test kit are you using??

as far as the mollie goes... its quite possible the it died first and someone decided to chew on it after. even small community fish will pick on corpses of other fish.

thanks so its a decent tester had no issues only thing was ph was running 8.4 got dift wood in the tank a few weeks got it to 8.2 or so now. I really don't want to use chemicals to drop it if I don't have too. Tank seems to be going well though besides the mollie I had the fish almost a year though so it may have just died IDK others are all fine and test come back zero
