Its a night fish you rarely see them. They will be fine with community fish come striped or spotty. Grow about 11inches but very slowly should be ok in 55gal I would say 75gal plus ideal but I kept a pair in a 100gal no problems.

The first post said no catfishes.

fire eels hardly show during the day...... :dry: :huh: no,don't.

My catfish tank is allways dimly lit.Pleco's, spotted pims, i see them moreoften.

the other things I can think of are all loachs, catfish, eels, or gobys and they are all ground. Clown loaches are group fish.

I can think of fish that live in very murky dirty water conditions like bettas, killifish and snakeheads.
