Like Jason said, they are basically a mini-Dovii........I would get the 90 for whatever you choose, you can NEVER have enough space for CA cichlids. As far as sexing goes...... If you can actually see a tankful of babies/juvies, if you want a male, select the biggest one in the tank.....most Nandopsis/Parachromis are sexually dimorphic size-wize, so males from the same batch will always be the biggest ones.

Just know that you will never be able to have to much in the way of tankmates; other cichlids will be out, maybe a armored catfish like a pleco.....

They are definitely on the "must have one day" list!!

Growth rates for Festae are at most 0.5" per month. The feel really slow in growing.

RTM and Beani grow at least 0.5" per month.

Grammodes is at most 0.25" a month.

Owning a Jag or Oscar spoils us into thinking that's how fast most fish grow.

Growth rates aside, is it not better to furnish CA cichlids the biggest aquarium possible; if I had access to or choices of 55, 75, or a 90, I would always go 90....with CA cichlids, bigger is always better. They have slow growth rates for about the 1st year, & then seem to get big quick, or so I've read.....

.25" a month sucks, but I'm patient. In all honesty I'll probably do a 75gal and try some dither fish hopefully the grammodes isn't that nasty at 2-3in. Just so I can keep the water quality top notch quick at a lower expense till the 6in or so mark(I like 75% weekly wc's). I need to find a way to fit a RTM in the mix. I'd love to have a Parachromis, but either the JD has to be given to my buddy or I got to put up another tank. Grammodes is definitely going on order soon. I appreciate the knowledge.

Probably just be thankful with what I got. I only do one main cichlid for each tank with low bio-load dithers. Probably do a pretty community tank for my 2 ladies upstairs with my oscar, JD, & the mini in the game room.
