These are my Salvini Cichlids,I am trying to get a pair out of the original six. Two passed after a couple of days, however the others seem to be doing great. I want to get a breeding pair and rehome the others. Are there any behaviors I should be looking for in the juvies, which would indicate a match? So far they really do not interact.

Those are awesome looking! The only salvinis I've seen are the ones at work and they aren't showing color like yours.

My lfs had two tanks filled with these guys at $5 each. I am a little concerned about the two that did not make it, but so far so good on the others.

Lol, all my fish are tiny. I have only been doing this for about 6 months, so monsters are not in my portfolio at the moment.

We sell ours for 6 bucks each but they don't look as good as yours.

they look great already !

and why did they not make it aggression?

and with so much color soon they will be very easy to sex soon! Salvinis are easy to sex.. females with more red and a dorsal spot and males with more blue pearling

you have at least 2 for sure females and 1 male just form a quick look I did good chances...

but dony you only have like a 30 gal right now? do you really need the tiger barb and the pleco ? I mean if you goal is to growing them up healthy so you can breed them and have a pair I think this only hurts you

I am not sure what the issue was with the other two, they started breathing heavy after a day or two, and then died a couple of days apart. I tested the water daily and did 30 to 50% wc every other day after I noticed they were in trouble.

So far these are very docile fish, I have seen very little aggression out of them. Currently they are in one of my 55gal tanks, but I will be getting a 40gal breeder for the two I decide to keep.I would go larger but I am running out of room with 55x2,36,20,10 and betta tank.

Nice looking salvinis. I agree about the 2 females and a male not sure with the odd one give it another few weeks or a month and it should be clearer.
