If I had an empty 75 I'd def go with a GGram mode myself. Male JD's can be awesome esp in breeding dress but not the most personable fish and can be very moody. Nice shots tom

if you dont want a babies... its prob best to not get a breeding pair. sals are pretty easy to sex so if you want 2x... it shouldnt be a problem finding 2x female or male. unless u want that whole "pair" deal.... its best to keep the tank to the pair alone.

raphaels are tanks. i actually have raphs with my salvini. the raphs are bigger.... and pretty much invincible

if you wanted to do 1x salvini and 1x jack dempsey... i think it would work in your favor. but as you said, nothing is guaranteed.

I'm probably best off avoiding the breeding pair. It would be pretty interesting but probably getting in over my head with that idea right now.

I was avoiding 2 male or 2 female Sals because I just assumed it would be a guaranteed battleground.

Is the grammode also known as the Sieve cichlid? Pretty cool looking fish, I'm not a huge fan of the head bump on adult males but it does make it look fierce. How would the species in general rate in aggressiveness compared to the Sal and JD?

I'm likely to have to order online, looking at either liveaquaria.com or thatpetplace.com unless anybody has other suggestions. So not able to pick the sex. A while back I did spot a small lfs on my way to the city, maybe the next time I'm that direction I'll stop in and check them out.

I'd prob get a Green Terror instead of the JD, they don't get quite as big, they grow slower, & have awesome colors when adult.. Just tossing it out there as another option.

Not nearly as fast as a JD would,, I'm not doubting you at all but I've never seen a 10 GT before in a aquarium.. I've seen a bunch of JDs though

I have a JD, and GT, got them each last Dec at about 1.5 ins. JD is currently slightly bigger, but not much. And a full grown GT can easily reach 10ins, as will the JD. Mine lived together a couple months, hated each other. I believe the JD to be a better match for the Sal, but imo a 75 is kinda small for 2 adults, say a 10in JD and 7in Sal. Not critically small, but pushing the tank to its max for sure. Again, just my opinion.
