Its been a while again. The wife talked me into holding off breeding my angels until we got a new house. So I now have an empty 55g with really nothing to put in it. I miss having a cichlid tank (that isn't full of angels) so I am leaning towards some firemouth cichlids to make the main focus point of the empty 55. Looking at atleast 2 since they do stay somewhat small. Just really can't figure out whatelse to put in there with them.

So does anyone have experience with firemouths on here that could shed some light? I thought about one of my plecos from my other tanks, but they seem happy where they are. Thought about yoyo loaches, but I don't know how the FM's would do with aggression.

Filtration is 2 Fluval C4 filters, 300w marineland visi-therm heater. Getting some driftwood online, as well as some fake plants.

Is never had a firemouth but I've had yoyos and they're awesome. They did fine with my Africans.

That's been my experience with them as well. They are cool and get pretty friendly.

Go do a water change - the solution to pollution is dilution.

They might bully other fish but won't typically nip. Just chase.

Whatever u do don't try convicts . I had a convict bite off my firemouth's top lip and now I got a firemouth with a cleft lip. Firemouth's maybe little instigators but there great to watch. They'll get along great with other fish .

Many of the cryptoheros species would do well.. Sajicas or chetumalensis would be my first choice. Nanoleuteus would be nice as well. Nano and chetumalensis are the first two in my banner.

Cool, so it seems that the yoyo's are a definite. I love my clowns in my other tank, so I figured yoyo's would be a good contrast with fm's in the other tank.

So, 2 firemouths, 4-5 yoyo's, anything else possibly without overloading the tank?
