We'll, petsmart struck a nerve with me again. Went to go and grab some frozen bloodworms for my zigzag eel, and I caught one of the tanks that had Red Devils in it and noticed that they had pinned this little fish in the corner. The Red Devils were easily over 2" and this little salvini was barely an inch. Luckily I have a 29 with only a pleco in it, so I brought home my new salvini!! Will post pics as soon as he is out of hiding

sadly i see that too often..... wish i had extra tanks to put these little guys in .... good job on picking up a salvini ...they're really cool looking ..... but when full grown ... that 29 + pleco is over stocked. they get about 5-6 inches .. so i would say about 40+Gal

Pleco isn't staying in this tank. The new salvini is still rather small and the 29 won't be it's full time home. It was spur of the moment deal. Waiting on a 120 for my angelfish then the salvini will be in my 55

Better situation than getting beaten to death. :pinch:

The male Jag I currently have was from a Mom & Pop LFS, but same thing....they had about 30 Jag juvies in a 37 BF tank, & this one was the undisputed king, to the detriment of all the others.

Good luck with him. Sals can be beautiful fish, but they are nasty when bigger. My kind of fish.

I'm pretty sure it's a female. Possibly to small to tell, but from what I've reading has all the characteristics of female salvini's.

Like the bottom pic, but it has a dominant spot by the tail fin, also a big spot in its dorsal fin.

Got my Jag the same way. He was in a 20g with 15 other jag juvies. He had claimed the whole tank except for an area the smaller than a softball where all other 15 stayed.

Love salvinis. Females are really a sight to see & man do they have an attitude for a little fish.

Attitude? Man, they are downright VICIOUS, especially when breeding....I love 'em too, but trying to find ones w/ any color these days is a challenge, just like quality JD's.....few & far between. :pinch:
