not 100% sure if it is a true texas so if anyone could tell me, would be nice.
saved him from a 40 gallon tank, now he's sharing a 160 gallon with my green terror couple who will be rehomed once my friend has moved to his new place and a gibbiceps pleco.

Far from an id expert myself, but the barring is a little similar to my RedTex, which is Tex/Festae. Also the yellow/greenish fins and underbelly say maybe a little Carpintis? My bet for true Tex would be no, but I think it shows very nice.. good addition either way

Not a herichthys cyano, but it does look like a variant of carpinitis. Ive seen bars and the yellowing underneath from carpinitis. The barring is dependant on dominance or stress levels.

Carpintis caught in Mexico

thanks for the replies, stress level may have been up there as he was still exploring the tank for the first time when i shot this video. so far he seems to be pretty mellow, not going near my GT's. i can only hope it'll stay that way, then i won't even have to rehome them and my friend can go buy some new :)

Looks pretty similar to my Texas. Mine did the same thing when introduced to his tank, then after about 3 days he was meaner than hell to his salvini tank mate. And mine is only 3" now. Watch out for the aggression just in case

After looking @ this fish in question several times & comparing it to both pics of Carpintis & Cyanoguttatus, I believe it to be a hybrid of the 2. It has traits of both genus.

And I concur you should watch this very closely.......that GT will be mince-meat if the hybrid chooses to inititiate a fight.

THOSE WHO REFUSE KNOWLEDGE ARE DOOMED TO FAIL.

WATER CHANGES ARE THE LIFEBLOOD OF THIS HOBBY. IF YOU DON'T BELIEVE SO OR SIMPLY DON'T FEEL LIKE DOING THEM, RE-HOME YOUR FISH, SELL YOUR AQUARIUM & FIND ANOTHER HOBBY, AS YOU WILL FAIL UTTERLY, COMPLETELY, & MISERABLY.

so far so good, i have my spare tank ready for fish so if anything goes down i can put my gt's in a safe place instantly.

too bad it's not a pure strain but i guess that's what you get when you save fish from people that don't know a damn thing about them.

Tell ya what G, I'm not a fan of hybrids......but that's not a bad looking fish. B)

I really am surprised that it hasn't whacked that GT....hybrids are known to be aggressive for the most part...SuprD71 has a Red Texas that's nuts.....he calls her "The Witch".
