Well, after a monumental struggle to survive, my EBJD gave it up. He was about 20 months old, just under 5ins. Blind and a deformed jaw, beat up once, really did well to live that long I think. Not a fish I would try again.

Thx Frank, I'll say this though, he was a tough nut. Way back I had to throw my GT in with him, as my RedTex was on a killing spree. Well of course GT pounded the crap out of BJ. Little bugger recovered ok. The more he grew, the more his jaw twisted. Couldnt take a pellet anymore, he was existing on krill and tubifex worms.

That sucks dude...I have never owned one, not a big fan, but if it died while under your care, it must have been frail to start with. I don't blame you for not wanting another, they are far too expensive IMO. Saw one @ my LFS the other day, it was the size of a thumb-nail & was $44.99....waaayyyy outta my prcie range !!!! :pinch:

Sorry,man. :(

THOSE WHO REFUSE KNOWLEDGE ARE DOOMED TO FAIL.

WATER CHANGES ARE THE LIFEBLOOD OF THIS HOBBY. IF YOU DON'T BELIEVE SO OR SIMPLY DON'T FEEL LIKE DOING THEM, RE-HOME YOUR FISH, SELL YOUR AQUARIUM & FIND ANOTHER HOBBY, AS YOU WILL FAIL UTTERLY, COMPLETELY, & MISERABLY.

Rick Coye from California is the only breeder that I know that produces and EBJD over 6". He spends a lot of time breeding back in regular JD genes to reduce the fraility of EBJDs. It is pricey though.

Nope, gonna put that in the books, move onto something else. Regardless of fish quality, the growth rate was real annoying. makes tankmates difficult. Def a beauty fish for someone with the patience and dedication to care for them as best they can. Still looking for a colorful killer, got 2 empty tanks... now THAT'S buggin me!

what do you mean by killer? Predator? Destroys the hand that feeds them? Too aggressive of a tankmate?
