alex557 created the topic: EBJD not eating

Hi, I've introduced a 10 cm electric blue jack dempsey to my tank a week ago and it refuses to eat from the surface. I've also noticed it shaking it's head rapidly at times, and also scratching on objects and gravel in tank. The EBJD is the only fish doing this. The tank is a 550 L tank and there is no aggression in tank atm. Also, he spends most time hiding in tunnels. He has only ever ate a small bit when the food floated past his head or from the bottom of the tank. Does anybody know what the head shaking is from? is it normal?

Thanks

He may still be adjusting. I have a yellow acara that doesnt surface feed that much I use the 1mm sinking nls pellets for him. Works great
Ebjd's from what I hear are prone to internal parasites

Please take a video & post into thread. Easier to diagnose.

As stated, did you quarantine? And what other inhabitants are in this aquarium?

THOSE WHO REFUSE KNOWLEDGE ARE DOOMED TO FAIL.

WATER CHANGES ARE THE LIFEBLOOD OF THIS HOBBY. IF YOU DON'T BELIEVE SO OR SIMPLY DON'T FEEL LIKE DOING THEM, RE-HOME YOUR FISH, SELL YOUR AQUARIUM & FIND ANOTHER HOBBY, AS YOU WILL FAIL UTTERLY, COMPLETELY, & MISERABLY.

JD's are primarily a shy cave dwelling cichlid that sticks to the bottom to mid level of the tank, you will have much better luck with a small sinking pellet. Also try dimming the lights down

The fish was not quarantined. The tank mates are a 15cm oscar, firemouth, 4 silver dollars. There is also a 15 cm severum in a divider which was moved because it was bullying the oscar. The fish has not eaten in a few days now even when it floated past his head. I've tried garlic soaked food and it is not working.
