I've never kept flowerhorns myself. There a a few here that have though. They don't like tankmates, that's why you usually see them in tanks alone. Others in sure can give you better advice. Welcome to OFL.

Welcome to OFL. 'Horns are very aggressive, dont need or generally appreciate tankmates. Most cichlids dont get lonely, they see other fish as competition for food and space. If anything, you would need a very large tank and equally mean fish. And that may just end up in constant fighting anyways. An Oscar, while being a big fish, is no match for the mean and generally violent Central Americans. And FH being hybrids of mean CA, they are usually even more psychotic than the fish they are made from. I have a hybrid Red Texas, the meanest fish I have ever owned. Lives alone and likes it that way.

I agree. I don't think an Oscar would be good at all. The fish stores tend to lead people to believe Oscars are extremely aggressive fish. Based on my experiences Oscars aren't nearly as aggressive as most cichlids. I'd keep the flowerhorn by himself.

Yeah I'm just ganna keep him on his own but if and when he sadly dies I will defiantly strive for oscars preferably a pair of white tiger and normal tiger but that's a long time away that is if he doesn't get any diseases or things go wrong but we will soon see

That flowerhorn should live past 10 years easily.

With clean water and a good diet, it should not get a disease, especially since it is alone in the tank.
