Though a hybrid of unknown origin, it is still a cichlid. A quality pellet should be its staple diet. An occasional offering of fd krill, shrimp, mealworm, earthworm is a good mix.Add a vitamin supplement like Boyd's VitaChem or Seachem Nourish. Tankspace and clean water are critical to any cichlid's overall well being. It will grow at the rate that it is genetically predisposed to do so. Dont overfeed in an attempt to make it big faster than it should be. As far as the kok, I think thats just a horrible feature, and some FH fanatics strive to get a tennis ball sized lump on the fish's head. Just a horror show imo.

The hump size has a lot to do with genetics. There are a ton of flowerhorn foods that promise color and big heads but really most are just overpriced hype. Find yourself a high quality pellet food and keep up on water changes and it should turn out to be a beast.

big kok and good coloring are more of genetics....

pristine water and varied foods works just as fine and will surely help your fish
develop big KOK and vibrant coloring if that is their genetics... no matter what food
enhancer you used if their strain does not have it , it will not work... those enhancer
shorten the life span of the fish... i have some FH and i am giving them natural foods...

the only set back of doing that is ...the fish grows big like an oscar which is not normal
in the flowerhorn world LOL! i have one that is about 11 inches big
