ehh created the topic: age and appetite

So before i left for work today i tossed some food into my midevils tank and he didnt it go for it. he usually smashes whatever food touches the water. his diet is pretty varied so i dont think he'd get bored. other than that he seemed normally, still flaring up at me and digging.
Is this something that happens as the fish ages?
i didnt get a chance to test the water but i did a water change yesterday. if the levels are off id pretty confused as to why.

heres a picture of his mean mug

I've read that fish can be put off of food around the time of the full moon. Today is a full moon.

I have had plenty of fish over the years quit eating for no apparent reason. Most recently my male Jag ate nothing for 16 days. Was concerned for a bit, as he was always a big eater. He was, and still is fine.

I'm of the belief that fish don't get bored of their food (or stop eating for no reason), it's just that there isn't any incentive to eat if their body is not truly hungry. (Unlike people who eat because the food is good, social gatherings, or to make themselves feel better)

For adult fish (over 1 year), eventually their body tells them not to eat for a period of time. We tend to feed more nutritionally dense food than what they would normally eat in the wild. The fish in our tanks don't expend that much energy either, compared to those who look for food on a constant basis.

Don't worry until he hasn't eaten for 1 month. He's got a good girth on him and nice color.

From this point on, feed him every other day for one feeding, and possibly include a 2 day fast period every couple of weeks.

Yup...agree w/ both Rock & Suprd71..........my Beani went on a hunger strike 3X......he's probably just being picky....if you're truly concerned, drop a giant mealworm or a nightcrawler in there. B)
