I know squat about African Cichlids. In May I bought eight of them out of the "Assorted Africans" tank at my LFS and it took me a couple weeks of searching the net to even figure out what they all were. Anyway, last night, a fish that is either a Cobalt Zebra or an Electric Blue was doing a little dance with one that I'm pretty sure is a Red Zebra. I watched them carefully and I was wowed to see that both of their breeding organs were out. The Red Zebra was laying a trail of sperm on a flat rock that I've got propped up at a 45 degree angle. Then immediately following was the Blue laying eggs on top on it. Then the Red would make the next pass scooping the eggs into his mouth and laying another trail. It was fascinating to watch all this.
The question is... Aren't these to different species? Or do Africans mate with whoever they want?
I'll try and get some pics of it the next time that it happens. If they are anything like my Oscars were than it shouldn't be long before they go at it again.

Keeping fish is only as hard as you choose to make it.

Yeah, if there even slightly re-lated, they'll mate. Most people hate these "hybrids" -the young of these fish...but i don't really have a side on this arguement(no hybrids vs. hybrids).
It's pretty cool to watch them mate though.
