Frontosa 11 Months, 3 Weeks ago
Does anybody know if a Frontosa could go with a full grown Oscar? I found a 6-bar at the local pet shop. It's been there for a while so I don't think it will be going anywhere anytime soon. So yeah, just wondering if they could live together.

I don't see why not, they can certainly get very big so that is something to consider. They will certainly be able to look after themselves with the Oscars. Just remember that these are African fish and prefer quite a high pH whereas Oscars prefer a lower pH, although they will be okay up to 8.0, around what frontosas like.

I'm not a frontosa expert but i can tell you that it's not a frontosa if it has 6 stripes, frontosas have 7. It's most likely a gibberosa. No big difference, they both get around 14-16 inches, and like hard water etc.

I have 2 frontosa in my general tank. I have found them to be slow growing when compared to an oscar. They also dont like each other. The weaker one hides all the time. However they dont give the other fish grief so i am guessing they will be ok with an oscar. Mine are only 5 or 6 inches. Will be interesting to see what happens as they get bigger

Re:Frontosa 9 Months ago
there are roughly 20 different types of frontosa normally found in the hobby, all to my knowledge have 6 stripes except Cyphotilapia frontosa (Kigoma) which has 7, i have three zaire blue type. although i have frontosa and oscars they dont share the same aquarium.
ive had my frontosa for nearly four years and the male is about 9" in size. they are very slow growing compared to oscars, i think they are similar in their aggression and temprement, although ive found frontosa`s to be more lazy than oscars!!!

i think they would be fine with oscars as long as there is enough space in the aquarium.although many people frown on mixing south american and african spieces, the oscar would have to adapt to the fronts water conditions.

fronts are great fish which get better with age unlike most cichlids, their fins continue growing and their colours get better as they age, they also live alot longer than oscars up to 25+ years.

also fronts are very clean feeders unlike oscars!
