Certainly, although of course not just any fish.
I guess you're talking about African Cichlids? (Cuz Oscars and such would count as well.)
Think many people keep African Syno Cats with their African Riftlake cichlids, for example Synodontis multipunctatus, don't ask me about the English name now.
They need some space though and should be kept in a small group.
For West Africans, there are as well suiting tankmates, be it upsidedown catfish and similar or some bigger tetras.
Probably too many to mention, it is important though the other fish have similar water and if possible food requirements and will get their share of food.
