im looking at setting up a new tank for the Electric Yellow Cichlid & others around the same size.

what size tank would be recomended if keeping 2 - 4 of these type cichlids, iknow they can get 6-7" each

any info on these fish habbits or tank mates would be greatly appreciated

i take it you mean Labidochromis caeruleus?
i used to have one male and five females in a 125litre.
they are much more peaceful than other mbuna, some books say they are ok in three foot aquaria.
mine did great in the 125 litre, they bred and i never had any health issues.

sorry as for tank mates its trial and error, what will work for some fish keepers dont for others.i would certainly stick to rift lake fish
the trouble is alot of fish stores sell malawi cichlids with the label "assorted malawi" and are around 2" in size, well most malawis will get on at this size but as they grow you can run into problems.

to begin with i kept mine with other malawi mubuna they seemed ok with blue zebra Pseudotropheus but the red zebra Pseudotropheus or (Pseudotropheus estherae) got to aggressive,
i had a few different types of malawi peacock aswell they seemed to get along ok to. i guess if you have a very large aquarium your options increase.

i put mine in with my frontosas before the frontasa started to breed and they got on fine but that was in a 400 litre aquarium.

i recently picked up 3 electric yellows for my wife and put them in a 30 gal aquarium with 2 blue gouramis and a rainbow shark. so far there hasn't been any real prob with the setup but we're keeping an eye on it hope this helps

electric yellows should be fine in a 4foot tank they r pretty peacfull i have been contimplating for a while to a get a few but the wife constantly reminds me at the amount of tanks we have and she knows im just looking for another excuse to setup sum more tanks.

maybe i should start apet shop rather????
