I have a red tiger and an albino tiger in my community tank with bristlenose cat fish, clown loaches and a few other odd matched fish courtesy of my other half who knows everything and nothing about suitable tank mates!
Oscars are prob 3 and 4 inch (head to tail) have had no worries at all, they ate the neon tetras and we have fed them feeder fish but seem to mostly get along with all the others.
We have good hiding places too.

ive got a few bristle noses plecos i breed them on the side line for fun to keep me busy until my oscars pair off(still atleast 12months)

bristles grown up to a max of 5inches and they do this within a year.

ive got a pair thats 6months old and they r 3,5inches

drop a algea pill in their tank every now and then and see them go bonkers over it also give them a piece of driftwood,it is very good for their indigestion and it promotes growth apperantly.

i have a five inch bristlenose in my 30g tank, i had to net it the other day, boy!!!!!!! is it armed. if these things grew to the size of sailfins they`d be awesome!!as well as spikes on its fins and armor plating as i got it out the water three spines shot out just behind each of its eyes. think any oscar would stuggle to swallow one of these, it`ll be like swallowing a hedgehog

Hey Simon, where did you get your braziliensis from?

I'm thinking about getting three or four bristlenose catfish. I was looking on Trimar's website and they've got them at around nine to 12 cm. £11 each. I am thinking about getting maybe three. A problem is, I'm wondering what their definition of 12 cm is. When I bought my clown Loachs from them three years ago, they reckon they were around eight or 9 inches, they were actually 6 inches.

The problem is, you just don't see big bristlenose catfish around so I think it might be worth going for these. I might even drive down there and pick them up

OFL it is always a good idea to see what you are buying when it comes to fish as you obviously found out with the clown loach

And 11 GBP?
That sounds a lot to me even for a big one. Then again I haven't checked ever yet what they take for them here, there are so many unwanted ones you can always get some for free cuz every beginner aquarist gets two and ends up with way too many, lol. No chance to find anything in the local classifieds or so?

They are cool though, mine are out most of the day even though they have plenty hiding spots. Very true about the spines, I usually try to catch them with my hands if I have to. Last time I used the net I had to cut it off the fish to avoid ripping all those spines out.
