parrot convict cross 5 Months, 2 Weeks ago
|
|
a friend of mine gave me a couple of fish for the wife tank and they turned out to be a breeding pair(lucky me).anyway now i have a beautiful pair of very aggressive fish (thankfully they're only 2" long) that seem to lay eggs every 21 days.
my question is will the parents cull the fry when they want to breed again or will i have a million of these little fish.
btw they are referred to online as jellybeans or dwarf parrot convicts. (and they are not dyed, i think they're a cross between a parrot and a pink convict)

didn't think you could cross a parrot with anything since they are a hybrid species in their own right.

Could be an albino convict. Any chance of a better pic
Anyway if they are like convicts they will be good parents and look after the young. But they will breed once the fry become babies and swim around the tank freely (cant remember how long but it was something like 6 weeks). If you let them breed every time they lay eggs (which is every 2 weeks if they dont have fry), you will end up with thousand of babies. When i had a breeding pair i used to remove any new eggs they laid until the babies were big enough to take to a shop (bout an inch) and the parents never bothered the babies. Whether they will attack the first lot of babies once they have new ones i dont know.
Once i had got rid of them all i decided to get rid if the parents. Convicts breed like rabbits but only worse

Genetics is so weird. You actually can cross a parrot- with another hybrid! There is a weird hybrid out now called the parrotxFH, or blood parrot time flowerhorn. The blood parrot is severumxreddevil and the flowerhorn is trimaxreddevil or some other amphilophous species. Here's some pictures of it:

I'm not sure what this fish is, looks to me like a normal pink con. Parents will cull fry, though generally only those deformed or hurt beyond recovery.
