Feeder Guppy Blog - Post #4

Today I added 5 more females and 1 more male, bringing my initial batch of parent guppies to 7 females and 3 males total. This will be my starting point in the breeder tank.

I spent the past 2 weeks looking for inexpensive plain feeder type guppies and it just seemed nobody has them when you want them. I found feeder guppies today that were babies at 12 cents each, and I could have purchased a bunch cheaply, but would have needed to let them grow up before sexing them or breeding them, so I settled on just 6 grown fancier guppies today at a high cost of $15 total. I got "blonde" guppies and it is better to get clear or light colored guppies so it is easier to see the dark fertile "gravid" ea in the females belly.

I should start to see some fry within the next few weeks from one or more of these females and then I will begin to harvest out the fry to another "grow out" tank where they will be fed and raised to "feeder" size. I may keep another couple of babies and add them back into the breeder tank to increase production too as needed...

END

Feeder Guppy Blog - Post #5

I decided to add and use a breeding container in the tank to hold two female guppies at once. I did this because all my females are relatively young and will not have more then a dozen or so babies at their age and I would like to save as many babies as I can. The trap allows for two pregnant females which are seperated by a devider inside and the babies will fall through small slits to a safer compartment underneath. I have two gravid guppies in there now.
